In this article, the author discusses that collective online information like Wikipedia are not reliable sources of information, even though these sites are treated by people as being all accurate. There is a frantic online race to become the most "Meta" site. Collective is not always better than the individual, it can be stupid too. Collective is intelligent when it is guided by intelligent individuals. Empowering the public does not empower the individuals. If wikis are to become influential then they should be improved by mechanisms which have worked in the pre Internet world.
It is true that wikis have come to be regarded as the ultimate truth and now there is a race of more such sites coming up. Some sites like Connexions are trying to solve the authencity issue of wikis but then will they be able to keep up the effort and will they be able to provide authentic information.
